NEC introduces four portable network projectors

NEC Display Solutions has introduced four new feature-rich projectors to supplement the renowned NP Series. The NP400, NP500, NP600 and NP500W projectors provide bright images and wired network connectivity to users who require remote monitoring and control at a value price.

The four projector models include built-in closed captioning to decode and display text information from a video for the hearing impaired, allowing users to easily communicate with all audiences.

Each projector allows for maximum brightness when there is limited lighting control, with the NP400 at 2500 lumens, NP500 at 3000 lumens, NP600 at 3500 lumens and the NP500W at 3000 lumens. The projectors are XGA native resolution, with the exception of the wide-format (WXGA) NP500W, and are ideal in classroom installations, meeting and training rooms and portable applications.

These entry-level projectors come with the following features:

Built-in wired networking, which allows remote monitoring and control of the projector over the network
Closed captioning, which enables users to display text information for the hearing impaired
Powerful 7-watt audio, which provides enough sound to fill a typical classroom
Automatic Vertical Keystone Correction, which allows the projector to be tilted up or down and still produce a square image without the need to make manual image adjustments
Auto Power ON via RGB (15-pin) input, which eliminates the need for a remote control by automatically turning the projector on when a signal is detected
DVI-I connector, which provides a second RGB input that is either analog or digital
9-pin RS232 connection, which provides a standard connection type instead of a proprietary connector
Comprehensive input/output panel
ECO Mode technology, which increases lamp life by up to 40 percent for up to 4000 hours
Virtual Remote with DDC/CI, which provides control of the projector without a monitoring system or remote control
Built-in security with security bar and Kensington™ lock slot
Lightweight at 6.6lbs
The NP400, NP500, NP600 and NP500W come standard with a two-year limited parts and labor warranty, including a one-year/500-hour lamp warranty.

Available for October 2008 shipment, the projectors are priced at about $899, $1099, $1499 and $999, respectively.

Ricoh to acquire Ikon Office Solutions

New York Stock Exchange-listed IKON Office Solutions has signed a definitive agreement with Japanese office automation products giant Ricoh Company Ltd to be acquired by the latter for approximately $1.6 billion in cash. This will result in significant syngeries, bringing together IKON’s sales and services capabilities with Ricoh’s engineering and manufacturing expertise. Following the acquisition, IKON will become a subsidiary of Ricoh.

The acquisition will help Ricoh, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high quality multifunction products, printers, fax machines and related supplies, to increase its global presence significantly.

Canon's new laser printer factory in Vietnam to make 14.4 million printers annually

Canon Vietnam has inaugurated a new laser printer factory at the Que Vo industrial Park in the Bac Ninh province. This laser printer facility is touted to Canon's largest printer manufacturing facility with a capacity of over 14.4 million printers annually.

According to reports, this new facility will cater to almost 35% of the worldwide demand for laser printers!

Axacore introduces new fax product, Faxbridge

Axacore, a worldwide provider of fax and imaging solutions, has released FaxBridge which provides companies the benefits of a fax server with the convenience of sending and receiving faxes through traditional fax machines.

Dell strengthens laser printer portfolio and services

Dell has launched three new color laser printer models while enhancing its printer services with a collection of ProSupport, installation, and recycling options as part of the computer manufacturer's plans to address broader audience needs with business-valued feature improvements. Subsequently, the company plans to do the same with its monochrome laser printere.

"The introduction of new color laser printers and services helps us address the printing needs of more customers who are looking to Dell to deliver competitive printing performance, total cost of printing, value and services," said Tim Peters, Vice President and General Manager for Dell Imaging, Displays, Software and Peripherals.

New laser printer models
The Dell 2135cn Multifunction (MFP) color laser printer is a new category entry primarily for Small Business and Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) with low-mid volume usage. With a print speed of up to 12 pages per minute (ppm) color and 16ppm(5) monochrome and easy-to-use copying, scanning and faxing features, the Dell 2135cn MFP can replace multiple office devices.

The Dell 2130cn color laser printer is aimed at fulfilling the great demand of small and medium size businesses looking for an affordable, high speed color printer solution for their everyday printing needs. With a high print speed of up to 16ppm color and up to 20ppm(5) monochrome, customers can get razor-sharp color print-outs quickly without leaving the office. Optional accessories such as duplexer, 250-sheet paper drawer, network protocol adapter and wireless printer adapter are also available for more demanding printing environments.

Lastly, the Dell 3130cn color laser printer is a high-performance networked color laser printer with a print speed of up to 26ppm color and 31ppm monochrome and up to 70,000 pages maximum monthly duty cycle.

Printer cartridges
High yield toner cartridges are offered for all three models. These toner cartridges not only reduce user-intervention required to replenish toners but also deliver outstanding printing cost per page that are as low as 1.4 cents for black-and-white and 9.4 cents for color on the Dell 3130cn.

Additionally, all three models include the ability to continue printing in black-and-white after a color toner has run out that can help reduce productivity downtime experienced by businesses.

Environment-friendly printers
All of these color laser printers share state-of-the-art energy efficiency and management characteristics.

The new color lasers are ENERGY STAR certified. These models can use less power during the fusing process and their chemically made toner can result in less CO2 emission during production than mechanically-made toners. The printer can warm up and print faster with vibrant image quality.

The new color laser printers are compliant with various international standards for chemical use, including Chemical Registration, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and REACH - Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances. Halogenated Flame Retardants are not used in external plastic mechanical parts.

Toner cartridges can be returned to Dell for recycling at no cost to the customer.

Warranty & service
Each printer comes with a standard one-year limited hardware warranty, Advanced Exchange or one-year limited on-site repair service following phone or online remote diagnosis. Optional standard service and ProSupport service upgrades are also available.

New printer services
ProSupport Service Now Available for Printers: These services help reduce cost and complexity and increase the efficiency of printer environment with options designed for IT Administrators or End-Users. Customers also have the option of new Onsite Exchange, Onsite Diagnosis services, Fast-Track Dispatch programs and access to higher-level certified technicians.

Printer Installation Services: Customers can choose installation services for large or small deployments. Dell also offers uninstall services to help customers with their end-to-end printer replacement cycle.

Printer Takeback and Recycling: Customers can receive discounts on their new Dell printers when they return their used printers to Dell for recycling.
